My mornings start early, even before the city wakes. I sip my coffee while the sun rises over Manila, Philippines, illuminating the chaos and charm of my neighborhood. At 27, I've grown accustomed to the rhythm of this place—the symphony of jeepneys honking, vendors calling, and people hustling to start their day. My shop, nestled in a narrow alley, is a haven for many looking to express their stories through ink.

Drawing has always been my escape, even back in school. I was that kid doodling in the margins, creating worlds on paper. But beyond art class, I loathed school. After graduating, I drifted through life, dabbling in odd jobs and experimenting with drugs, my body becoming a canvas of tattoos.

One day, fate twisted my path. My tattoo artist, a gruff man with a soft spot for strays like me, needed an assistant. I jumped at the chance, eager to immerse myself in the world of ink. The work was demanding, but I thrived, quickly building a reputation for my intricate designs. Five years ago, I took a leap and opened my own studio.

Social media became my gallery, showcasing my work to a global audience. Today, with over a million followers, I've inked everyone from local celebrities to international clients. Occasionally, my art even takes me abroad—a surreal experience for a kid who once felt trapped in Manila's maze.

But not all clients are glamorous. Recently, a notorious gangster sought me out, offering a hefty sum for a custom piece. His reputation preceded him, and I approached the task with a mix of excitement and dread. I finished the tattoo, only to have him erupt in anger—one of the letters was wrong. My heart pounded as I stood my ground, pointing out that his own template contained the error. He grumbled, but eventually acknowledged the mistake. Miraculously, I corrected it, and he left satisfied, paying me more than agreed.

Back in my shop, I find solace in my craft, each line and shade a testament to resilience. Manila is my home, chaotic yet comforting, and my journey here is far from over.
